Look what I can do!

I learned something new today: how to Skype.  Learning to Skype made me feel 87, and I looked 57. Not that there’s anything wrong with 87 or 57 except that I’m not even 47.  I loved Skyping, though.  My friend of 42 years told me how to do it.  You click on the call button.  I think its green like for “GO!”  Its that easy.  Of course, this is after my high school aged niece downloaded the program and set up an account for me sometime last year.  I can feel myself wanting to Skype everyone I know....and to use Skype as a verb and a noun and other lexically appropriate ways.

Its also made me realize how important it is to learn new things...like what the word lexical means. I’m not telling you because if you don’t know what it means, I think you should have to look it up just like I did.  There are so many new things I'd like to learn:  better time management skills, how to not procrastinate, how to make transfers using lazertran paper, how to eat fruit rather than cookies, how to drink black coffee rather than sugary, coffee milk, how to draw, how to use a miter saw, how to clip coupons and then remember to use them...the list goes on and on...many other things that aren’t appropriate for a business-focused-shared-by-three-friends blog.

Summertime is upon us here in the South.  The kids get out of school in four days.  The bee gals’s hives will be swarmed with kids wanting, needing, and wanting some more.  Not exactly the perfect storm for learning some new skills, I’d think.  Given a second reflection, though, its actually a wonderful time for relaxing and experimenting.  The kids are old enough to make their own dang peanut butter crackers for lunch and make me some as well.  They can learn how to squirt some cleaner in the toilet and swish it around.  They’ll have time to sweep and scour, and I’ll have time to relax if they're definition of "done" is not exactly the way I would do it.  Summertime is a time to slow down; to think; and to do....or not do.  That is my reflection.

Happy Summer, y'all, Becky
